I have a multidisciplinary education, at the doctoral level, and over ten years of professional experience in economics, business, education, management and related areas, both in private, public, non-governmental, and international organizations, within and without my home country.
I have a Doctoral Degree in Business Sciences (University Fernando Pessoa, Portugal), a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (University of Aveiro, Portugal), and an MBA in Management of Technologies, Innovation and Knowledge (University of Aveiro, Portugal).
My Ph.D. research work concerned “Building a New Conceptual Model of Economic Development Strategy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS)” and involved a great deal of cluster-related independent research and analysis, requiring initiative, self-motivation and a wide range of skills, including an understanding of economic development systems, strategies and processes. I found this task very stimulating and I completed it within a three-year period with great success.
In addition, I highlight the following four sets of professional experiences that I consider to qualify me to make a major contribution to the cluster development team's work: (1) my engagement as Minister of Youth and Sports in the 15th Constitutional Government of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe (RDSTP); (2) my 5-year collaboration with the United Nations System as business consultant in charge of evaluating UN programs, projects and action plans for the country; (3) my experience as an author of socioeconomic books; and (4) my teaching experience in higher and vocational education institutions.
In addition to Portuguese and both Sao Tomean and Cape Verdean Creole languages, which are my native ones, I can speak English, French, and Spanish fluently. Moreover, I have strong leadership and communication skills, and ability to learn new concepts quickly, work well under pressure and communicate ideas clearly and effectively. I am also a fast and accurate writer, with a keen eye for detail.
