I am by qualification a Mechanical Engineer with MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, India. My core area of specialisation is building sustainable competitiveness among micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs). During my 16 years of cluster related work, I have successfully steered a number of cluster development projects on behalf of UNIDO in India that focused on building MSME competitiveness during 1996-2008. My work has helped the Government of India reach out to thousands of industrial and artisan clusters through a wide range of public support schemes and national or regional institutions that have helped build national capacities for executing cluster related development projects. I have widely travelled and trained numerous development practitioners across the world and authored several publications. Since 2007 I am heading a ‘not-for-profit’ consulting institution called ‘Foundation for MSME Clusters’ that provides a range of technical services to the policy makers and practitioners on cluster based MSME development. The organization has consistently grown to provide services to a number of Indian national and state level government institutions, Small Industries Development Bank of India, IFC, GIZ, SDC, UNDP, UNIDO, European Union, ILO and several others both in India and abroad. My current areas of work relate to energy efficiency, responsible businesses, local area development and innovation in clusters.
